This photo was taken from Gun Lake looking at the fire burning on Pearson Ridge during the 2009 Tyaughton Lake Fire. It started on May 29 at Mowson Pond and was contained on June 20 after burning 8045 ha between Gun Creek and Marshall Lake.
Gun Lake is equipped with 3 Fire Trailers stationed around the lake with all the equipment necessary to supress or slow down a forest fire while help arrives. Make yourself familiar with the trailers and know how to use them in an emergency situation. The trailers and pumps are to be used for emergency fire situations only. Training days are held every Spring at no cost to all interested Gun Lake residents. Please respect this equipment. Map with Fire Trailer locations available here soon.
Plans are in the works to build a central fire storage shed on the Crown Land that we lease at the corner of Lakeside and West Gun. Additional fire fighting equipment will also be purchased along with a fourth Fire Trailer. There is a plan and we are going to need your help getting it done.

Below are photos from summer of 2009. Gun Lake residents using the Fire Trailer to put out a lightning strike fire behind the airport on a branch of the Slim FSR. Keen observation, quick thinking and action prevented this fire from spreading to dry dead fall that surrounded the immediate area. Note the huge strip of bark the lightning ripped off the tree that took the direct hit. A downed log next to it caught fire. The crew stayed with the fire until it was cold and it was checked again the following day. Nice work Gun Lake Fire Crew!
Do your part and always make sure your campfire is out!
